The Belva McDonald's scholarship was created in 1987.
On July 7, 1986, our sister Belva was called home to be with the Lord at age 26. The following year our sister Elizabeth Gant suggested we create a scholarship in honor of Belva. Our mother Lucille McDonald thought it was a great idea, because in the past her employers Mr. and Mrs. John Sharpe had given scholarships or paid tuition to her older children. She loved the idea of us being able to give back.
In 1987, we began awarding scholarships to deserving recipients to help with their college tuition. After several years, our brother Jon Coleman thought it prudent to obtain a 501(c)(3) to officially establish our nonprofit status. The Belva J. McDonald Educational Foundation continues to award a deserving student every year.
To God be the glory for the things he has done and for our mother encouraging us to commit to an endeavor that would afford someone an opportunity to apply and benefit from our scholarship.
